September 2, 1945
On this day, right after World War 2 ended, and Germany defeated France, Ho Chi Minh declared independence from France. He created Viet Minh in 1941, which fought for independence within Vietnam. With the rising conflict in Europe and the differences in beliefs, he believed it was right that he would be separated from France's power. He thought that America would back them on this journey as he believed it was similar to the colonies trying to get freedom from Great Britain. After a year of trying to be free, he finally had enough power to say goodbye to France. After gaining independence, his group of people captured Hanoi and overpowered what was then called North Vietnam. He went on to be the leader of North Vietnam for 25 years while fighting America and the anti-communist South Vietnam.
