US Troops Leave
January 1973 ended the direct U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War. Two months after the Vietnam peace agreement, the last U.S. troops leave South Vietnam as Hanoi frees the remaining American prisoners held in North Vietnam. North Vietnamese left the President with two choices: escalate U.S. involvement or withdraw.
